The Truth About Fat Loss

There are so many misconceptions out there about fat loss. Unfortunately for all the ‘joe plumbers’ out there, it seems like everyday a new weight loss gimmick pops up promising instant results, a trim waist line, and 6 pack abs.

As a Phd researcher in nutrition I can tell you that no weight loss gimmick will deliver you the fat loss results that you desire. What is really ironic is that what works for losing weight now, was the same thing that worked 100 years ago.

It makes sense though right? Our genome hasn’t changed in 100 years so why would what works for weight loss change? It hasn’t. Sure 100 years ago there were diet gimmicks just like now (except back then they were more dangerous - tape worms anyone?).

Now, I’m not saying that you can’t lose weight fast. No, no that isn’t the case. But I cringe everyday when I see the ads online that say “I lose 20lbs in 2 weeks with no diet and no exercise. Click here to find out how.” That’s garbage. Let me tell you this. You CAN lose weight fast. You can lose 20lbs in 4 weeks if you dedicated yourself to being perfect with your diet and training really hard.

I once heard a famous obesity researcher say “Losing weight isn’t hard. There is no mystery there. What is really hard is keeping the weight off.” So think about that next time you go on a fat loss diet. You can take the weight off a hundred different ways. But will you be able to keep it off?

What About Financial Planning?

My easy answer is if you have it, that is financial planning, life will work out for you. If you ignore it then things could get a little dicey.

Let?s say you are happy worker A with a good job and five years go by. You?ve been spending that nice income and have run up a couple of credit cards and things are beginning tighten up.

Meanwhile happy worker B has made a plan. The plan says he saves 10% and doesn?t use credit except for the big things like a house and maybe a car. Now five years go by and B has a nest egg of maybe $20,000 or more.

Who has more choices in life? What will happen after 10 years?

Is all lost for the now unhappy worker A? Not at all, A just has to dig out of that hole and he may need some help seeing his options.

On the other hand, happy worker B might want to look into ways he can maximize the savings he has put aside. If he didn?t have a financial planner before he might want to find one now (River Bend Financial Group has done a good job for me).

A friend who was much like unhappy worker A after 10 years: recently woke up to that fact. He had some assets but had let his business taxes get behind and piled in some debt and had some fairly serious problems. He went to a financial planner and is now on the way back thanks to the help he has gotten.

Designer or God?

It is Sunday and I see my neighbours are, like many good catholics, attending mass in order to reaffirm their faith.

There is no basis upon which I can grant credit to the Newtonian laws of evolution. I see that there are far too many things on this earth that simply cannot be explained away so simply.

There is an implicit design in the relationships between disparate species. These relationships could not have ‘evolved’ over millenia - they had to have begun as a complete and (often) complex interplay. For many of the symbiotic relationships that can be seen around, it is painfully obvious that these must have been created, not only as complete relationships for the first two symbios, but as complete relationships far ALL of the symbios in the region.

Whether there is a God or a long dead designer, I don’t know, but it sure beats the ‘accidental’ creation argument. 

One thing is for sure, God did not evolve. He must have sprung into being as the complete omnipotent power.

Why, I wonder, if God did create us, did He create us as such weak and feeble creatures?

Why did He not create something with which He could have a more meaningful relationship and with which he could empathise?
